PUSHING IN NEPAL
The Annapurna Skatepark in Pokhara at the foot of the Annapurna Massif and the KTM Skatepark in the center of Kathmandu are home to the skateboarding scene of Nepal. Supported by local volunteers and with financial means of online fundraising, the non-profit organisation Make Life Skate Life and Danish skateboarding community ALIS realized the new construction and rebuild of these skateparks in 2016 and 2017. Since then, the skateboarding scene of Nepal has become a tight-knit and highly motivated community. Due to supply shortages, the skateboarders at Annapurna Skatepark and KTM Skatepark are still sharing the few skateboards that were initially given to them. And for many kids, having a visit at the skatepark before going to school in the morning and returning as soon as school is finished, is part of their daily routine. It is great so see, how skateboarding has settled and opened up new perspectives within the youth of Nepal, especially after this nation was severely devastated by a lethal earthquake in 2015.
